A Wild Week of Type 1 Diabetes - Frustration & Vulnerability
Hi lovelies! Somewhat ridiculously I actually filmed this video a year ago - almost to the day. But with the rising temperatures here in the UK I experienced a not too dissimilar week last week (although not quite as full on with the hypos), and it reminded me that this footage existed somewhere in the depths of a hard drive. Ta-da!
I chat through a difficult week of low blood glucose and some other hurdles, as well as my thoughts and feelings about living alone with type 1 diabetes. I thought this natter might help others who are feeling the full force of trying to manage a very complicated chronic condition. I'm feeling pretty exhausted by it all lately, but I know it will pass, and I al...

Type 1 Diabetes and 2020
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 года назад
Hi lovelies! It's been a while, hasn't it? I'm just popping up to say hi, how are you, and mull over the strange, nuanced existence that we all moved through in the turbulence that was 2020. I guess I wanted to have a collective moment for where we’re all at, and what we’ve come through in the past nine months. Specifically to detail a real sense of unease that loomed large in my lovely, lucky ...
Changing an Omnipod - Step By Step Insertion
Просмотров 96 тыс.4 года назад
If you're thinking about switching to an Omnipod Insulin Pump and want to get a feel for the process of changing an Omnipod, this might be the video for you! As mentioned I don't yet have the Omnipod Dash - new users will not get the PDM seen in this video. However the process for changing the pod is pretty much the same, so I hope this is helpful. This video is NOT an instructional guide; plea...
24 Lessons In 24 Years with Type 1 Diabetes
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 года назад
Hello lovelies! This week was the 24th anniversary of my type 1 diabetes diagnosis so I did a little reflecting on how far I've come on this wild ride trying to imitate a pancreas. Turns out I've come further than I thought, which is nice! There are always going to be new lessons, but I've pulled out 24 for this little (long) video. It gets a bit deep in parts, but then there's also pizza chat,...
Type 1 Diabetes Day In The Life - In Lockdown | Vlog
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 года назад
A day in the life of someone living with type 1 diabetes - with a global pandemic thrown into the mix! I talk through how I tackle my insulin doses around meals, some exercise, blood sugars (of course) and generally how I'm making all the decisions we as people with type 1 diabetes have to make every day to keep ourselves alive and feeling well. It's been FOREVER since I made a vlog - phew! I h...
My Preferred Diabetes Device Sites
Просмотров 68 тыс.4 года назад
Where you wear your type 1 diabetes devices on your body is a personal choice and there are loads of factors that may make one site preferable over another. In this video I chat through all the places I've tried wearing both my Omnipod insulin pump and my Dexcom G6 CGM, and talk about why some places suit me more than others. Hopefully this is useful if you're thinking about getting a diabetes ...
Managing Blood Glucose Levels in Lockdown
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.4 года назад
Hi Lockdown lovelies! I hope you're doing ok and keeping safe. After my last video about self-isolating with type 1 diabetes a few of you got in touch to say that the change in routine was affecting your blood sugars - namely that they were creeping up, which is never fun. So I thought I'd do a video chatting about the changes I've noticed in my blood sugars since being in lockdown and how I'm ...
Self -Isolation/Lockdown with Type 1 Diabetes
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.4 года назад
Eesshhh the world is a little weird right now isn't it? In this video (hi, by the way! It's been a while, sorry) I chat through how I'm managing my type 1 diabetes while self-isolating alone as the world tackles the coronavirus global pandemic, and the things I'm doing to stay healthy and productive during this disconcerting time - as much as possible. Because sometimes Netflix and wine is the ...
Life On The Dexcom - My Thoughts
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.4 года назад
I've been hooked up to the Dexcom continuous glucose monitor for a while now, so I thought I'd chat through how it's impacted my type 1 diabetes management and the pros and cons of life on the Dexcom G6 as opposed to regular finger prick blood glucose testing. Spoiler: I love it. So much. Disclaimer: My Dexcom is #gifted, but these opinions, as always, are my own. TOPICS COVERED: 1. Data Overwh...
Maintaining A Strong Mindset with Type 1 Diabetes
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.5 лет назад
While a lot of the time type 1 diabetes feels like a manageable illness (thanks to plenty of effort from those who live with it), there are moments when the endless monotony and constant attention it requires can threaten to take over. I've put together some of the tips that help me when things start to get a little funky up in that diabetes headspace. This is a very complex topic and these are...
Dexcom G6 Sensor Insertion
Просмотров 117 тыс.5 лет назад
DISCLOSURE: I am very grateful to be a Dexcom Warrior, and as such they provide me with the CGM without charge. I am not paid to talk about Dexcom, and my opinions - as ever - are mine, allllll mine. So today I talk through inserting the Dexcom G6 CGM! As usual it goes without saying that I'm definitely not a healthcare professional, so please do seek advice from your diabetes care team or the ...

5:35 JUMP STRAIGHT TO SENSOR INSERTION AND IGNORE MY WAFFLE Oh heyyyyy! I'm hooking myself up to the Dexcom G5 CGM for the very first time, so I chat through my feelings about trying a CGM and take you step-by-step through inserting the sensor and transmitter. Travelling with type 1 diabetes can be a daunting prospect, but with the right planning and preparation you can absolutely do it! Life with type 1 diabetes should not stop you from doing awesome and fulfilling things - and that includes seeing the world. I've embarked on six weeks of travel with type 1 diabetes (PINCH ME!). Excitement aside, there was a lot to think about when it came preparing...
Handling Christmas Day with Type 1 Diabetes
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.6 лет назад
With all the roast potatoes, cheese and chocolate flying around, I thought it might be interesting to track how I managed my type 1 diabetes on Christmas Day in terms of insulin doses, blood sugars and general obscure and ridiculous considerations and observations. Please note this is not intended as medical advice, I am merely sharing my personal experience of living with type 1 diabetes in a ...
My Week In Hypos
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.6 лет назад
In honour of Hypo Awareness Week, I thought it might be interesting to recount my week in hypos (also known as low blood sugar or low blood glucose), which many people with type 1 diabetes experience on a weekly or even daily basis. I chat through symptoms, how I experience them, what might have caused them, and also to show that hypos *DO* happen. But we're all just trying our best right!? hyp...

I'm a T1D for 38 years. Diabetes is a lodger who doesn't pay the rent. We are lucky now that there is technology available to make life more comfortable. I remember starting bg tests pre-meters when you had to compare the colour on the test strip with a colour chart on a Visidex bottle. Thank you, Jen for saying things that i thought was just in my mind. One of the best things to have with diabetes is a sense of humour! Without it, diabetes is much harder to cope with. Thank you again! 🙂

I do high impact exercise 3 times per week with cycle/walking daily. I eat 20g am 50g lunch zero evening. 28units night time at 6pm quick acting to cover carbs and blood sugar. Yes I am on statins 20mg. Any ideas how to reduce highs in the am?

Thanks again Jen!!

The omnipod dash 5 which I am on has to be about to "see" the dexcom so it makes it much harder to choose especially being a side sleeper. I've only been on it for 2 years and have visual scars now. I'm going to ask my Doctor if I can go back to shots but keep the dexcom.
